How You Can Help
Most of our funds go towards
children's education - school buildings, books, computers, uniforms, etc. Sometimes we provide food, clothing and medicine in the aftermath of the earthquakes and floods which are unfortunately so common in this part of the world. Whenever
we have a little to spare, it is invested in schemes which provide a
continuing income. Our aim is to help the families to help themselves, particularly through education. We are grateful for any help you can give us.
There is donation button at the top left corner of every page, or you can pay the money directly into our charity bank account. As a registered charity, all donations qualify for tax relief.

One of our most successful projects has been Sponsor a Cow. This scheme has a double benefit - it raises
funds for the school, and also provides some income for a poor local family. This year our profit was 8 million rupiah, enough to buy 2 new pentium core 2 duo computers. Here's how it works:
- You lend Safe Haven Projects the money to buy a cow.
- We house the cow with a
local farmer who fattens it up over a period of one year.
- The cow is then sold for a profit which is shared between the farmer and the charity.
- You are free to reclaim your investment or
leave it with us for a further year, in which case we will repeat the process.
The project has now been extended to include sheep. As of November 2011, we have 14 cows and 4 sheep. The cow at the school village is
pregnant so hopefully a calf will arrive in March, increasing profits further.
The cost of a cow is 350 pounds which includes building a shed - a necessary expense in a poor area like this where sometimes things disappear overnight! For 100 pounds, we can buy 2 sheep and a shed.

Our craft and sewing classes, are very popular and hugely successful. As a small part of these lessons, we ask the children to make little leather bracelets which we sell at our fund-raising events. The children are delighted to do this, knowing that all funds raised will go towards improving their school and their futures.
We have decided to make the bracelets available through this website. A colourful and informative leaflet is included with the bracelet, explaining where it was made and how the profits are spent. It is a lovely gift to give, and an even better one to receive!
When you buy one of these bracelets, every penny goes towards helping the children. Val brings the bracelets with her when she returns to Scotland once a year, so there is no wasted expense on overseas shipping. Furthermore, the accompanying colour leaflet is supplied to us free as a donation. And finally, for every sale, one of our supporters contributes the packaging and postage to your address.

Organise a fund-raising event
We have had great support from people in the north of Scotland. Many people have given generously of their time, energy and enthusiasm to organise special events which have raised funds for our charity. These include fun runs, jumble sales, open garden days and others. The pupils of Inverurie Academy have been particularly helpful.
