Provides emergency aid and medical supplies in response to natural disasters.
This project needs:
Java is situated on the so-called “Pacific Ring of Fire” where about 90% of the world’s earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. The volcanoes in Indonesia are among the most active of the Pacific Ring of Fire and unfortunately the worst ones are Kelud and Mount Merapi on Java island. The resulting tsunamis and flooding are responsible for thousands of deaths in the region.
When one of these devastating incidents occurs, our emergency and medical team are called upon. Our team of volunteers are all young Indonesian men from ordinary families, many without jobs or money who are willing to give their time and energy to help the people after natural disasters. They collect funds on the city streets to buy rice and noodles for the children.
We help, first with rescue, then clear up and distribution. We organize extra rice supplies, doctors and medicines as well as school programs. Where we can, we set up small projects to help the people who have lost their jobs in the disaster, for example providing start-up funding for a rabbit breeding program which can supply funds for 4 or 5 families until they get their lives back in order.
